hi all,
becky, mr wons, rachel, thanks for the recent post, i've been remiss from posting lately because of a "boring" trend myself. it's hard to write about interesting things, when things are seemingly uninteresting, but even news of business trips, normal life, and in-law feuds is ever so brief a respite from sand, rocks, ragheads, and questionable chow. the USMC was kind enough to provide a beer day for their Marines 2 weeks ago, 2 beers per Marine over the age of 21 of course. someone couldn't multiply correctly the number of personnel over the age of 21 times two, and their was a beer shortage, at any rate, the officers finally got their beer last night. my new favorite beer is a slightly chilled, bottled, bud lite. it tastes so good when it hits your lips.
i've been relegated for the past 4 days to staff work, i attended an interesting tactics review board with representatives from all the different squadrons in the Marine AO (area of operations). there is much talk about helicopter tactics and how we can avoid being shot down, it's amazing, but some of the answers are found in Vietnam Era tactics and altitude considerations, proving that history is still an invaluable tool and has applications and lessons learned which can be applied transcending 35 years of technology. i can't help but admit i'm starting to get anxious to come home, for those who don't know, i'm still slated for the advanced party to return to CONUS, which puts us back by the end of January, we'll see though, that is only about 6 weeks away at this point, and i can do six weeks with my eyes closed at this point. complacency is always an operations risk factor, but is mitigated by reading of the latest insurgent tactics and the inherent risk of being over here, so don't worry, my head is still in the game, but at certain, non-critical times, i let it wonder what sushi taste like and what its like to see Charece's face every day, and if miss bebba caught another baby lizard, and what mom's thanksgiving dinner in march is going to taste like, all the good stuff basically. well i have a stack of things to do waiting for me. on a closing note, the squadron spaces require a jacket to be worn indoors, and a lot of layers outdoors, in a small way it reminds me of 305 Candlelight Drive, so thanks Mom for the implied feelings of warmth inside, while my skin shivers.
love and prayers,
Viper 76
