i flew last week, escorted a CH-46 up to Baghdad at 0330 in the morning. Baghdad has the highest levels of medical care, why we put them in Baghdad, I don't know, not the safest of places to fly for helos. I've escorted several flights into Baghdad. The Cobras serve as a deterrent for anyone (ie Johnny Jihad) from shooting at the marked red cross medevac helos which are unarmed. Unfortunately, we lost more than a couple to shootdowns in the past, so we wisened up and started flying a gunship with them, to deter Johnny from taking them out. On this night however, we risked, life, limb, and equipment to transport a captured AIF (anti iraqi force) insurgent for an urgent kidney problem. Just goes to show you how much we are going the extra mile to honor the Geneva Convention rights these guys don't even rate under international law. Since they are not a uniformed combatant, they are not entitled to the same rules of war, but no one seems to remember that in our country, much less the world. So we risk our lives and fly into a dangerous place to ensure they are afforded the same medical care as our
Marines and Soldiers would get. Don't hear about that stuff on CNN, now do you?
