The weekly update for 9/7/2004
greetings Will and fellow bloggers, this is the weekly update. My apologies for the absence of last weeks update. I'll try and make this one worthy of two weeks worth of news. Will, glad you got the package, Liese and I hope it was to your liking. Thanks for the update on your movements. It sounds like you are as usual taking everything in your stride.
Ok. Let's begin.
It's a moist 76 in New York city. The number one movie for the second week running was Hero. An epic tail that tells the tail by a series of Rashomon-like flashback accounts shape the story of how one man defeated three assassins who sought to murder the most powerful warlord in pre-unified China. I saw this movie a while back and i highly recommend it for it's beauty and storytelling. Subtitle haters be warned. It aint in english.
Thankfully hurricane Frances has been reduced to a tropical storm but did a number on Florida and Georgia nonetheless. Around the ten billion mark if i'm not mistaken. The hurricane did more damage to the Kennedy Space Center than any other storm in history, ripping an estimated 1,000 exterior panels off the building where spaceships are assembled. No space shuttles were inside the building, but center director James Kennedy said he feared the damage could set back NASA's effort to resume shuttle launches next spring.
On to Tennis. In the US open. Andre Agassi is through to the quarter finals. He'll play #1 Roger Federra. Layton Hewitt is also through. Up next for the Australian will be another unseeded player, either Tommy Haas of Germany or Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic. Also through are Tim Henman from the UK and Andy Roddick, who served a not to shabby 152mph serve already. nice! Lindsey Davenport kicked Venus Williams arse on Sunday. She will now play 62nd-ranked Shinobu Asagoe of Japan.
Damn bastarding red sox are making a go of it.
U2 NEWS. U2 have covered electro legends KRAFTWERK on their new single ‘Vertigo’, which is out on November 8. Will, 'Vertigo,' is on one of the cd's for your listening pleasure. pretty dancey if you ask me.
The track is the first single from the band’s as-yet-untitled 11th album. The song was recorded at Hanover Keys studio in Dublin and produced by Steve Lillywhite.
Other B-sides are new song ‘Are You Gonna Wait Forever?’, and a remix of the title track by Jack Knife Lee. The single will come out on two CDs and DVD single, featuring a video for the song.
In related news, U2 fans are trying to work out if a ‘leak’ contains a number of new songs from the group.
Internet fan websites are currently trying to work out the authenticity of two songs, which have been named ‘Love And Peace Or Else’ and ‘Miracle Drug’ and are currently being traded online.
Other titles of some of the songs on the record will be ‘Man And A Woman’, ‘Yahweh’, ‘Crumbs From Your Table’ and ‘City Of Blinding Lights’. November 23 is the release date unless the album is leaked, to which U2 are then prepared to release it on the iTunes music store ahead of time.
Not to worry. Cooz is on the hunt for said songs. As soon as i find them, i'll jet them off on a cd to you.
and for Mac lovers. Apple Computer unveiled the brand spanking new iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen, with a cost of US$1,499 and $1,899.
