fob duke
hi all,
just chilling at fob duke on the night strip alert. or lack thereof alert. amy thanks for the package, i got it only 11 days, and i'm forward deployed from the main base. here at this fob, the army runs the show, and these guys do not suffer from crappy marine corps chow let me tell you, it is a pleasure to walk into this chow hall......a pleasure. the tasking here is quite benign and not much is going on. i'm at the place where all the fighting was in august, but we killed a lot of bad guys and they fled this area or are buried here. a model of a battle that will be applied to future conflicts. i've been reading a lot and started doing some pesky professional military education stuff that i've put off for about 3 years now. the internet access here is ...not very, so that is why i haven't posted recently. appreciate everyone's post though. becky, i got your package i while back, i thought i wrote you a thnk you email, but if i didn't thank-you, i shared most of it. the kool aid was a big hit as was the raspberry lemonade mix. looking forward to the redskins kicking the crap out of the cowboys this morning. other than that, nothing real significant to report from here, unfortunately. my nights consist of briefing for an eventuality we hope won't happen at 1800. then we go out and turn the birds and check all the systems out. then we shutdown. go to chow and gorge ourselves on the good army chow. go back, catch a movie, walk over to the ready room and study the SIPR (secret internet), go grab my book (My Losing Season by Pat Conroy, thanks Matt Pie), matt sent me that last year when i was over here and i never read it, but i packed it back with me and repacked it back here for the second go around, after i read the book, i take a walk down to the other side of the FOB to check my NIPR (not secret internet), go back to the ready room....look busy, go preflight the aircraft around 0500, bring my gear back in from the aircraft and wait for the oncoming day crew to take our place, then i go to morning chow and gorge myself again, then i go to sleep around 0730. it is still quite warm here, this area is ironically the hottest place in iraq, with temps still around 117F during the day, low 70's at night. fortunately i'm asleep most of the day. well enough random musings for now. my motivation to delve into the politics of this situation is nil now since i'm not flying much, i don't see enough to tick me off. take care, more later. thanks for all the news, posts, and updates, they are much appreciated. happy 32nd birthday to matt d'agostino......dude..you're old.
