Hello all,
Thanks for the post and the updates, much appreciated. Another moonless night in the Al Anbar Province. Much of the fighting on the news in Najaf is on the other side of the country from where I am. But I have some good friends down there mixing it up with Johnny Jihad every day, they’ve been quite busy. One of my friends is at home, a purple heart winner, unfortunately won’t fly ever again, but all things considered, a lucky man.
Things in Najaf seem to be reaching a political conclusion, which is a good thing for the Interim Iraqi Government (IIG), not necessarily a good thing for us. Being able to finish what we start is something that is not readily afforded to us anymore, but anything that bolsters the perception of the IIG as a legitimate authority is ok in my book.
In the chow hall here at my FOB, we eat and live among former Iraqi soldiers. Not sure what their motives are, but they put their lives on the line with us and without us at times on patrols and operations. There are many Iraqis working with us to make things right, that’s not really interesting news though for the American people. If anything I’ve learned from over here is how perverted the media’s attention of this conflict is. Granted there are many things wrong with what is going on and what went on in this whole operation, these guys seldom if ever report what goes right. All things considered this whole operation of Support and Stability and the Velvet Glove approach is working, slowly…..albeit, but surely. Slowly, the Iraqi population is realizing that these foreign fighters and Johnny Jihadists are raving lunatics, but a society used to 2000 years of subjugation cannot possibly be expected to understand or trust democracy.
As for Mr Wons comments on the whole Kerry thing, he is the chink in the armor that the terrorist want. Terrorism can’t be fought on our soil, Americans won’t stand for it. Iraq is a lightening rod for all those Johhny Jihads to come here and take up arms against us, try and take up arms against us is better put, rather than focusing their attentions to the US. While their IEDs and bombing of the infrastructure of Iraq is inflicting damage and making the headlines of world news, when they choose to stand and fight, they are destroyed in place, and can only melt away under their man dresses when the noose tightens. Fortunately, some of them really believe in their jihad, and stand and fight….and die. Bottom line, Kerry thinks we can withdraw from Iraq, save face with the world somehow and another September 11 won’t happen because of his anti-terrorism campaign at home. Total BS. Like I told the Good Shepherd 8th grade, the New Cumberland 7th grade and anyone else who will listen, you can’t put a cop or a Marine or a soldier or God forbid an Airman on every street corner of every neighborhood in America and expect to defend against bombs and chem./bio/nuclear attack. You have to go kill it at the source. There are many other things that we are doing and that must be done in political avenues and understanding people’s cultures and why they hate us and helping them understand us whatever….., but that takes generations and time and it’s something we haven’t paid any attention to for 200 years. Overtures in these departments are valid and should be pursued, but that’s not going to stop Osama and Zarqawi today, only the gun will do that.
On a lighter note, I had reconstituted mashed potatoes, boneless bbq ribs and a diet sprite for dinner, all in all 2 / 5 stars. I need some sneaker balls because my boots stink and I need a sports medicine doctor because I think it’s my achhiles tendon that is bothering me all this time I come to find out myself, thanks Navy Medicine. What do you call the top grad from med school?……Doctor……..What do you call the guy who barely passed med school?…….Lieutenant……all of you may not get it, but it’s funny….trust me. Anyways enough babbling for now, I have to find something to do. Take Care……Will
